Food is environment. Food is tradition. Food is experimentation. A 90 minute itinerary leads the visitor to discover food chemical and physical nature. We will question on the next challenges which await a 10 thousand population in 2050 and will analyze the different meanings the word food can assume. Without neglecting that consumers choices have a strong impact on industrial policies.

A VEGETABLE GARDEN RIGHT ON YOUR TERRACE

We have fields, vineyards, forests and… terraces. Yes, also terraces can be suitable places to grow vegetables. This lab shows participants how to grow vegetables and, thanks to bio boxes filled with special topsoil, they will be able to create their small gardens.

DNA, HERE IT IS!

When we speak of GMO, do we know exactly what it means? Let’s take a step back and examine the nucleic acids present in every being.

We will discuss atoms, molecules, chromosomes and genes; genetic engineering and crossbreeds.

We will extract DNA and RNA from cells.

ALL THE COLOURS OF FOOD

If we examine food carefully, we would certainly make interesting discoveries. For example, left overs from a red cabbage or pomegranate, apparently useless at a first glance, could become colours!

With a little quantity of vinegar, bicarbonate and a toot spoonful of potassium we can create more than 60 different colours from red fruits.

Absolutely to avoid for someone, a valid option for others, the debate is open.

We will try to shed light on GMOs and their impact on the environment and on consumer responsibility, considering each option, its pros and cons.

Proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, trace elements … we hear about them, but do we know what they really mean, and where we can find them?

How’s the perfect dish? What about food pyramid? Relying on our senses and through some scientifc experiment we’ll try to shed light on a quite fashinating and topical theme. Without forgetting about the impact our eating habits have on the planet.
